LOCATION (LD3 0EP)
Pengenffordd has provided an important route across the black mountains for thousands of years. The pass was created during the ice age when glaciers gouged impressive valleys into the mountains.
The hill fort of castell dinas was a strategic point on the pass in the iron age and in the 12th century the normans built a castle on this natural viewpoint and is believed to be the highest norman castle in wales. The mountains are a protected wildlife site and home to many varieties of mooreland birds and plants.
The inn is named after the ancient fortress, which lies right behind the property at the top of an unspoilt valley within the brecon beacons national park providing a “honeypot” for walkers and visitors to the park enjoying the area as a “playground” for mountain bikers, hikers, gliding, trekking and canoeing, facilities of which are all on the doorstep of the inn as are the centres of brecon, abergavenny & hay on wye.
Indeed activities galore for those who enjoy the great outdoors wishing to escape life’s everyday tumble and turmoil and wish to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of an old welsh coaching inn sitting in front of a large log filled dog grate enjoying good food , real ales and the tales of the mountains, then falling into bed with dreams of hardy welsh sheep and hill ponies grazing on the ascending unspoilt valley side.
For those of a more gregarious adventurous nature a favoured option may be of a night or two with a group of like minded friends (very popular with groups of barristers etc) enjoying the “crack” and bedding down in the comfortable warm well equipped bunkhouse(s) or camping on the richly grassed camping site bracing an early morning shower with fresh mountain spring water (heated of course), the “fountain of youth” is at your command !!!
How to find the inn…..it is situated in the county of powys on the eastern side of the national park on the a479 between cwmdu & talgarth, tucked under castle dinas. Let this steal your heart

THE BUSINESS
Our clients have run this business to their own “pace” for 3 years and have spent a large amount of time and effort developing the property and its facilities to become the multi-faceted business that is now so well presented. Sale to March 2007 show £264,750 inc vat @ 17.5% (currently on the 5.5% scheme) with a sales mix of 50% Wet (around 140 beer brls) to 35% Dry and 15% other income which is made up of B&B, bunkhouse letting and camping, overall GP shows 61.5%.
The extra bunkhouse income does not yet show within the income however we believe that adding this along with opening at least during the lunch session and all day for 6 months then it would be within reason to see sales grow to above £350,000. Currently the business is providing a disposable Reconstructed Net Profit (after adding back personal and one off expenses) of circa £65,000 however with the extra income the disposable profit could return a SIX FIGURE sum.
This is truly a unique business opportunity waiting a new dedicated owner be it a private individual or corporate buyer to fully capitalise on the true potential of this exciting (if not laid back) rare site
